It is very difficult to determine where the name if a certain team came from. The team must be able to explain what is the meaning of the name that is symbolizing them.

Can't believe there's a team named the same as a pokemon heh, what will they come up with next? There's some awesome random team names on that site.

i lived in santa cruz for a decade. that slug logo was on EVERYTHING! it was, however, pretty cool to see those neon-yellow slugs for real, in the woods surrounding the campus.

there's a long-standing rumor that they chose that mascot not because of their ubiquitousness in local nature, but for their suggestive Latin genus name... :)
