What a pity to be deprived with such an awesome way to mingle with people and friends: sports. Glad that you let her do her thing to. She will miss your good family when she returns to her native land.

I wish that America would dedicate more time and funding to academics, as Germany does. This nation places too much importance on organized sports teams, taking away from the quality of our childrens' education.

Germany is very geared towards academic success and very few people make it to professional level. I agree with the author and believe sports should play a fundamental role in shaping our kid´s future. So much canbe learnt from kicking a ball rather than learning from a textbook or the internet, which is a great tool for learning but sadly is becoming a substitute for actually getting out there and doing it!

This does suprise me. Is this just an isolated case / town in Germany? Maybe it´s a very poor area and the local council does not have enough money to allocate to building sport centres. Germany has some of the top athletes in Europe - Boris becker, runners and the football national team.
I do see your point though - i love the US sporting culture , baseball , softball etc. Here in Spain not a great deal of money is alloted to sporting arenas, but there are numerous football pitches and maybe this is the reason thay are champions of europe.

Having no sports for children is really sad. Children need as they grow is to be able to play and interact with others. To be a part of a team. It is a basic need of a person to develop his personality. So why is that those sports are being deprived to them? Playing has no cost. They won’t even need a payday loan to play basketball…

There is no life without sport! Fotball, volleyball, basketball and other sports are good for students health.
